Winter DR 2024: Day 3
Thank you all for your support this week! We are already feeling the blessings pouring in and it is incredible what God is doing. We started today with a pancake breakfast by Lily and me and reconnected with the whole team. Then, we split off into teams to deep clean the entire church for Sunday morning service. I was grouped with Noah and Rosie (a girl from the DR) to clean the kitchen areas. I learned that “vamos a limpiar” means “let’s clean” in Spanish, thanks to Rosie’s lessons. She’s a fantastic teacher! Afterwards, we went out to eat lunch at a famous sandwich restaurant called Payan, which was really good. We returned to the church for siesta hour, where most of us recharged our energy and had great conversations.
Luckily, we were able to make a stop at Jumbo, a massive grocery store sort of like Walmart in the US. After reconvening at the church, we set out to the local park to connect with the community. I had the opportunity to play volleyball with the girls from the team and the local girls. It was truly a blessing to see them. While the girls stayed at the park, the boys left to play basketball at the nearby courts. They continued relationships with the locals and even invited them to church this Sunday. We’re praying they will be there! When all of us were home, we had a wonderful dinner of rice and beans and ended the day on a happy note.
As we continue through the week, please pray that the spirit will continue to fill each of us and empower us to make an impact on the people here. Pray for courage in uncomfortable situations and that the Lord will provide us words that resonate within the people, despite the language barrier. We’re so thankful that God’s love transcends languages and cultures. Please pray that God will work through us this week. Pray that our ministry reaches the community, and that the community ministers to us. Thank you again for your support! We’re so excited to share stories when we get back to the US.
Dios te bendiga (God bless you),
Jie Jie Harp
