DR Winter 2024: Day 5
Hi everybody! Today we have two students writing, Abby Wall and Ty Reaser. We are so excited to share what we did on this beautiful Sunday! Of course, on Sunday, we have church! Before that, Joey Yarham, Jake Flinner, and Ty made us toast and fruit, and it was great! After breakfast, we finished getting ready, then had Ben Comer, Lily Perris, Jie Jie Harp, Jake, and Emily go out to Las Brisas, the sister church of Kefale. There they danced, worshiped, and just hung out with the young students. The other 5 students, Joey, Abby, Ty, Noah Lowe, and Shu Shu Harp stayed at Kefale with Kyro, where they heard his amazing and powerful message on shame. During church, we had Abby and Joey sing in our service, and Noah played the box drum. It was truly a powerful service and our worship team did amazing! The Kefale church prayed over the whole team, and we felt so incredibly loved. After church, everyone stayed and had lunch together. We had chicken, rice, pasta, salad, drinks, and cake. It was delicious and we enjoyed fellowship with one another. Then, a man named Caesar gifted us these incredible phone stands that even have a charging port! We’re so incredibly grateful for that. After that, we had a short Siesta, where the girls rested and made brownies and the guys played some basketball.
After a full morning and our Siesta, we went to The Colonial Square, where Christopher Columbus and his son lived! It’s a beautiful area with such rich history. Think of it like Crocker Park. We saw pigeons, went to gift shops, and learned about the deep history of the area. Then, a group of us broke off and went to a far portion of the square, and we found the sweetest little puppy! His name was Timoteo. Afterwards, we went to dinner at D’Freddy’s and it was the best dinner we've ever had. We had platters of meat come out. All full of steak, chicken wings, chicken breasts, fries, and tostones. After that, we went to Jumbo. It is the local grocery store and we got lots of snacks and stuff for breakfast the next morning. Mucho dulce y aperitivos..
After our second trip to Jumbo, we headed back to the church. We played some basketball, and Ben made an awesome trickshot, where he shot the basketball over the wall and made it in! We all had fun cheering him and the other guys attempting the trick shot on. After that, we had a quick debrief, then washed clothes and just hung out for the rest of the night. It was a busy, but incredible day!
We ask you to keep the people and kids here in the DR in your prayers. Pray for their hearts to be opened up and they pursue and accept God with everything they have and for them to see the true purpose of their life no matter the conditions or environment they are in.
With much love,
Abby Wall and Ty Reaser
